Crusberg Fence is a family-owned fence company based in Yorktown, Virginia, building custom wood, ornamental aluminum, and chain-link fences across York County and the wider Virginia Peninsula, from Yorktown and Tabb to Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and Gloucester. A 40-year Peninsula fence family
The Crusberg family's fence trade goes back more than 40 years. Keith Crusberg started at 19 with a small family-owned shop, Hatch Fence, then contracted for Sears for about a decade before managing Hercules and Omega fence operations into his fifties. Twelve years ago, he decided to build something of his own, and Crusberg Fence was born. He learned the trade from the old-timers he worked alongside, including a family friend who first taught him to fence.
Today the company is owned and run by Keith's twin sons, Clint and Cole, who both work as salesmen and superintendents, with Keith still selling and lending 40 years of judgment to the hard calls. Free on-site measure and estimate
We do not quote a fence sight-unseen. We come out, measure the run, check the grade and access, and note any old fence that has to come out, then give you an honest written estimate at no charge.
02Plain-language options and materials
We walk you through your material and style options in plain language. Budget and style are the two biggest questions, and we give you the honest trade-offs: cedar versus pressure-treated pine, wood versus aluminum on a waterfront lot, so you can choose with confidence.
Deposit and scheduling
A typical deposit is around 20%, or roughly 50% on special-order materials. We are usually booked three to four weeks out and install year-round on the Peninsula. Stock materials are often available same-day or next-day, while special orders take a few days to arrive.

Licensed, bonded, and a Virginia Class A contractor
We took the extra time to get all the paperwork right when a lot of Peninsula fence installers never bother. We hold a Virginia Class A contractor license (DPOR #2705194192) and carry liability, workers' compensation, and commercial auto coverage. The state says you need a license to contract this work by law, yet unlicensed LLCs are everywhere.
A license is not a formality. It holds a contractor accountable to the consumer. If a crew is not licensed and bonded, there is no backstop when something goes wrong, and you are the one left holding it.

We build fences to last
We screw our framework and gates rather than nailing them, because screwed joints hold up better over the years. We set posts two feet in the ground, a bag of concrete per hole, on a typical six-foot privacy fence.
Post depth and setting method are the single biggest predictors of how long a fence lasts. It is also the first place cut-rate crews cut corners. A cedar or pine privacy fence built our way can last 20 to 30 years on the Peninsula.

Four decades in this market means we know what actually works in Tidewater humidity and coastal salt air. PVC and vinyl are a much better product than they used to be, and wood pricing never really came back down after 2020, so we help you spend wisely.
Cedar grays faster than pressure-treated pine but does not warp and smells better, while treated pine holds up well too and costs less. On a waterfront lot, wood or aluminum usually makes more sense than a privacy fence. We give you the honest trade-offs, not a sales pitch.
